Local4 in Michigan reports that an employee in a doctor’s office that is affiliated with the Detroit Medical Center has been charged with fraud for allegedly providing approximately eight billing records to a co-defendant in May under the promise that she would be paid $100 per useable profile. The billing sheets contain the names, birth dates and Social Security numbers of patients, which could be used to steal identities.
The criminal complaint was filed against Joyce Nichelle Willis in federal court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Willis was not an employee of DMC itself, but of an office that had access to patient records.
