And once again, we see volunteers being given sensitive personal information without any requirement that they protect the data properly. Gabriela De Anda reports:
The parents of more than 80 young athletes in the Milpitas Knights PAL Youth Football program received a troubling e-mail Aug. 8. The president of the league sent an apology stating a bag of registration materials — including original birth certificates, physical forms, registration forms and photos — had been stolen from the back seat of a volunteer’s car on Aug. 6.
According to the police report filed in Hayward, where the incident occurred, a volunteer had left the sensitive items in the back seat of her vehicle. Her boyfriend took the vehicle to work that night and parked the car in a nearby lot, where the items were believed to have been stolen. In addition, the report also stated that the Knights checkbook was taken.
