Experian: credit data ‘very secure’

Posted on October 13, 2014 by Dissent

Presumably with a straight face, Marni Usheroff reports on an interview with Craig Boundy, Experian North America CEO:

Q. Does Experian actually hold onto your data? Does it have a storage facility where it is held?

A. All the information that we store is held on computer servers in very secure – both physically and information security – big data centers we operate. Our two big data centers in the U.S. are in Texas. (Credit data is managed separately from marketing data.)

I’m guessing Ms. Usheroff is not aware that this blogger filed a complaint with the FTC after reporting on over 100 data security breaches Experian disclosed involving its credit report database. While I am pleased to see many fewer breach reports this year, I am still waiting to see what, if anything, the FTC does about the numerous breaches Experian reported.

Typically not a best practice: having both of your primary data centers in the same state.
