Palm Springs Federal Credit Union has been notifying its members after an external drive with their names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and account numbers was lost on or about October 20.
In a letter to those affected, CEO Debbie Pitigliano writes that the CU was required to provide the data as part of its regulatory obligation for audits, and that the drive was lost during that process.
The letter does not say whether the external drive was lost in the mail or where it might have been lost. Nor does it explain why the data were (presumably) unencrypted.
Those notified were offered 12 months of services with AllClear ID.
The October 30th notification letter, a copy of which was submitted to the California Attorney General’s website, does not indicate how many credit union members were impacted. PSFCU had 1,580 members as of their August 1, 2014 filing.
