On Friday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant on a Lee County woman, following an investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
The initial investigation alleges that Marsha Cook, 51 years old of Beattyville, stole the identities of two elderly females and received student loans totaling more than $50,000. Cook, who previously worked in the homes of the elderly victims as their home health nurse, created an e-mail address and a federal student loan profile to apply for the loans using the their names, dates of birth, social security numbers, and driver’s license numbers.

If you have an elderly parent or family member who is being cared for in their own home or outside your presence, think about placing a security freeze on their credit reports. It could prevent unscrupulous home health aides, nurses, or others from taking advantage of your relative. Yes, it may cost you something like $10 to place the freeze, but it could prevent trouble.
