Peter Jackson reports that William Lorimer’s claims of a breach involving botnets and government servers were not confirmed by EWA-Canada, who conducted an investigation of his claims:
EWA-Canada found that both alerts were likely false alarms. But in its conclusions, EWA condemned how the office handled the situation, saying there were no formal procedures in place to deal with it, and there was no proper followup investigation.
In a statement Tuesday, the OCIO insisted there have always been protocols in place for emergency firewall changes and for incident reports.
That contradicts the EWA report, which found problems with regards to both these areas. In particular, it highlighted a lack of proper documentation of the 2013 incidents.
