Several weeks ago, Katy ISD in Texas started notifying 11,658 current and former employees that their SSN and personal information were on a flash drive that was lost by an IRS employee during an audit.
Today, Landan Kuhlmann reports that the district enrolled all the affected employees in a credit-monitoring program provided by iLock360 for three years, and hopes to recover the cost of that credit monitoring program from the IRS.
A copy of the district’s notification letter to employees can be found here (just turn your laptop upside down and you’ll be fine).

I wonder if the IRS will reimburse the district. I’m trying to think of any similar cases, but can’t think of any offhand, can you?
