I wonder how many other TransformPOS clients may be notifying customers. So far, I do not see any notice on TransformPOS’s web site about this incident. From Village Pizza & Pub’s press release:
On July 27, 2015, Village Pizza & Pub learned that the company that provides its point-of-sale payment card processing system, TransformPOS, had been the victim of a security incident. An unauthorized person used malware to gain access to Village Pizza’s transaction information as it was being routed through the TransformPOS system.
TransformPOS has retained an outside forensic investigation firm to conduct a thorough investigation. Law enforcement has been notified and they are working to apprehend those responsible.
While Transform POS’ investigators were not able to forensically assess whether unauthorized access or acquisition of cardholder data actually took place at Village Pizza, Village Pizza wanted to let its customers know about this incident as soon as possible. If customers used a debit or credit card at either the Carpentersville or Elgin restaurant between April 23, 2015 and August 2, 2015, they should review their account statements regularly for any unauthorized activity. The information that may have been obtained from the card is the information in the magnetic stripe on the back of the card, which includes the cardholder name, card number, expiration date, and verification code. If customers see a fraudulent charge on their card, please immediately contact the bank that issued your card. Major credit card companies typically guarantee that cardholders will not be responsible for fraudulent charges.
Village Pizza has established a dedicated call center – 1-844-261-9738 – where customers will be able to get more information about this incident and any steps they can take to protect themselves against the possible risk of fraud. The call center is open between 7am and 4pm Central.
“TransformPOS has assured us that the cause of the incident has been identified and resolved, that enhanced security measures have been implemented, and that customers can feel confident in using their card at both our locations,” said local owner Marcie Sarillo. “We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause our customers.”
