Elaine Silvestrini reports that Tonia Bright, a former Tampa Police civilian employee, has been indicted on charges that involve her misusing police databases to support a fraud scheme. Bright had retired last year.
A search warrant affidavit filed last month said detectives were told that Bright’s friend, Rita Girven, drove around Tampa looking for older people. According to the affidavit, Girven would give their license plate information to Bright, who would look them up in police databases and give the information to Girven.
Girven is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of stolen identity refund fraud, a type of theft in which crooks use stolen personal information to file fake tax returns.
