Marc Martinez reports:
It’s a popular Valley restaurant chain known for is pizza, but now “The Streets of New York” owners are dealing with a problem that is affecting its customers.
The business fell victim to hackers who were able to steal credit card information from patrons.
It doesn’t look like it was a large security breach, but rather a few hundred customers. The hackers involved tried to extort $10,000 from the owners; that is when the FBI got involved.

The problem in this case may be that the restaurant was storing credit card data:
“It was gathering information back since 2008 of some credit card numbers and things like that, we didn’t even know it existed,” said Peterson.
Storing credit card data is, of course, a no-no, but this is not the first time we’ve heard of such situations where entities did not know what they were storing or that they were storing.
