GCHQ Official Twitter Suspended

Posted on February 11, 2016 by Lee J

suspended.ctrlbox.com Couple of weeks ago i started on a small side project as a way of playing with Ruby On Rails and as a result i came up with a nice tool that utilizes the twitter API and checks for suspended accounts in a ethical non-intrusive way. So far most of the finds have been porn based accounts that was until today when i noticed that @GCHQ_UK had been captured and flagged as suspended, and surely enough it was. So for those who have been hiding under a rock for some time now the GCHQ is the British intelligence and security organisation responsible for providing signals intelligence (SIGINT) and information assurance to the British government and armed forces. It appears the account was not all that active and some of the last public tweets i can find are from way back in 2012. In recent days GHCQ has been in the media a lot with tons of people trying to figure out its Christmas card puzzle, which ultimately no one did and they released the answers to them yesterday. Another account which is at the opposite end of the game, @Data_Siph0n which is run by the owner of Siph0n.net has also had their long standing account suspended and no reason given and no contact after 3 days. Reasons behind the suspension are unclear and i doubt it will ever become clear as to why its happened to either of these accounts.
