The Baltic News Service reports:
University of Latvia researcher Ilmars Poikans, also known by the nickname Neo, will become one of the founding members of the new political party to be established on May 3 at the initiative of independent MP Artuss Kaimins.
Back in 2009, Neo stole from the Latvian State Revenue Service electronic data showing that, despite of the financial and economic crisis in the country, there had been no tightening of belts in the public administration. He was caught and charged with illegal downloading and disclosure of commercial and personal data. In November 2015, Riga Regional Court found Poikans guilty of unauthorized data downloads from the Electronic Declaration System (EDS) of the State Revenue Service’s and sentenced him to 100 hours of community service but his lawyers have appealed against the guilty verdict.
