WFTV reports an update to a case I’ve covered previously on this blog.
Tonia Bright, a former Tampa Police Department civilian employee, was indicted last September for her role in a fraud scheme. According to the indictment, Bright misused her access to local, state, and federal law enforcement databases, including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computerized index, to find information on people. She then shared that information with Rita Girven, who used it for tax refund fraud.
Bright pleaded guilty in February.
She has now been sentenced to two years in federal prison. According to WFTV, she must also forfeit $29,057 and pay restitution totaling $166,026.
