The town clerk for Hancock has been arrested for sharing a resident’s personal information, according to the attorney general’s office.
Joan Joseph was arrested and charged with one count of violating RSA 260:14, the Driver Privacy Act. The act establishes that records from the Division of Motor Vehicles are confidential.
According to a press release, Joseph is charged with violating the DPA by knowingly disclosing protected motor vehicle information, including a vehicle owner’s name and address, to a person who was not authorized to obtain that information.

So a town clerk is arrested and charged with a Class A misdemeanor for misusing the driver database. Yet when police officers around the country misuse the database for personal reasons, they’re generally not charged criminally. Double standard?
