Deutsche Telekom is investigating whether a cyber attack was responsible for causing network problems for as many as 900,000 customers over the weekend.
If confirmed, it would be the first major cyber attack on the German telecoms group, highlighting the vulnerability of big corporations to such security breaches.
In a statement, Deutsche Telekom said it could not exclude the possibility that the network breakdown followed an attack “by external parties”, with the result that some routers used to offer phone, Internet and online TV “can no longer register on the network”.
