Rachel Ellis reports:
An e-mail was sent out earlier this morning that instructed all Elon faculty members to reset their Elon password immediately. Christopher Waters, the Assistant Vice President for Technology and the Chief Information Officer of the University, notified staff members that their Elon e-mail would be automatically disabled if passwords were not changed by 1 p.m. EST.
According to the e-mail, about 1,500 University accounts had been compromised due to a security breach with OneLogin, a password manager that handles authentication between Elon users and the Syncplicity backup service. While account usernames and passwords were accessed, there is no indication that files stored in Syncplicity were inappropriately retrieved.
