A woman whose job specialized in assisting medical patients has been charged with identity theft, according to the Dothan Police Department.
Dothan Police say Malika Shanta Oliver, 40, is charged with trafficking stolen identities.
An investigation revealed Oliver was employed by a company called MedAssist which specializes in assisting medical patients with insurance eligibility. As part of her employment, Oliver had access to a large volume of patient demographics.
Read more on WSFA. The Dothan Eagle also provides additional details, but it’s not yet clear when Oliver first began misusing the information of patients at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. At least seven patients have been identified as victims and there may be more.
