In May, 2016, this site noted a breach report from Abingdon-Avon School District in Illinois. One month later, we noted a news report that their IT Director, identified at the time as Mark Rodgers (sic), had been arrested, although it wasn’t clear if the felony eavesdropping charges were directly related to the breach.
Not reported on this site was that in July, 2017, Mark Rogers was reinstated to his position by the board after being on paid administrative leave for 13 months.
Now Rogers has reportedly sued the district’s Board of Education. The Register-Mail reports:
District 276′s technology director has filed a civil lawsuit against the school board, former Superintendent Chad Willis, and forensic investigator Andrew Garrett of Garrett Discovery.
In the suit, Rogers and his attorneys from the Monmouth-based firm of Gullberg, Box, Worby & Rogers allege the board, Willis and Garrett violated the Illinois School Student Records Act, which led to his false arrest and imprisonment, and that they inflicted emotional distress.
Contacted Wednesday morning, Rogers declined to comment on his civil case. He is employed as District 276′s technology director.
Rogers’ civil suit comes on the heels of an October 2017 criminal trial in which three felony counts of eavesdropping were dropped.
