OK, here’s a W-2 phishing attack from 2016 that I never covered on this site but has apparently resulted in a class action lawsuit settlement. Christina Davis reports:
TIMCO Aviation Services has agreed to pay more than $300,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company violated Class Members’ privacy rights by compromising tax data in March 2016 without authorization.
The plaintiffs alleged in their class action lawsuit that TIMCO, an aircraft maintenance company, was hooked by a phishing scam and disclosed employees’ W-2 information to unauthorized third parties. The plaintiffs accused TIMCO of violating North Carolina’s Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act, invasion of privacy, and negligence.
The class action lawsuit also alleges that TIMCO failed to warn them about the breach in a timely manner.
