A former employee at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson was arrested Wednesday for stealing money and banking information from a patient, announced Attorney General Jim Hood.
Shaniqua Kiera Jenkins, 27, of Jackson, was arrested by investigators with the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control following an indictment by a Hinds County grand jury on one count of felony exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Jenkins is accused of stealing the victim’s debit card number and additional information on the card then using it to withdraw more than $250 for her personal use in January 2017. At the time of the crime, Jenkins was employed at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson where the victim was a patient.
Jenkins was booked into the Hinds County Detention Center and released on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, Jenkins faces up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines. A charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case was investigated by Anthony Wright with the AG’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and will be prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorneys General Parker Wiseman and Mark Ward.
