Aflac says agent emails were hacked, exposing personal information of clients

Posted on May 26, 2018 by Dissent

WXYZ reports that American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus (Aflac) has issued a press release concerning the breach of independent contractor sales agents’ email accounts. The breach has reportedly affected some clients’ personal information. WXYZ reports:

Clients’ personal information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, policy numbers, social security numbers and bank account information may have been exposed, according to a review by Aflac completed on April 25.

The unauthorized access reportedly occurred between Jan. 17 and April 2.

The exact number of individuals affected was not reported, and the release is not up on Aflac’s site at the time of this posting.

Thank you. Someone (you, perhaps?) emailed me to tell me that they had seen the notice on aflac’s site on the evening of May 25. I have no idea why I did not see the page with that prominent notice and link when I checked the site before posting – and I did check it a few ways. Maybe some cache issue? Who knows. But Aflac does have the notice up, so thanks for submitting the links.
