The personal information of about 2,500 LAPD officers, along with approximately 17,500 police officer applicants, was stolen in a theft of data held by the City’s Personnel Department, several officials told NBCLA.
The breach was discovered in recent days, the officials said, and the affected officers were being notified over the weekend.
Read more on NBC. The breach reportedly involves data types such as names, birth dates, email address and account passwords, but so far no one is saying how the breach occurred.

Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office issued a statement this morning saying that the breach was discovered on Thursday and “involved limited information about city of Los Angeles job applicants in a database that is no longer used by the Personnel Department.”
