Lezla Gooden reports that Kern County officials are putting 5,000 employees on alert that their personal information — and that of their families — may have been compromised by a data security incident through the county’s health insurance provider, Legacy Health.
Kern County officials sent out this email Tuesday to all their employees, saying the following in part.
“We have been notified by one of the third-party administrators of our Health Benefits plan of a possible data security incident. The investigation is currently underway by the third-party vendor.”
No further information was provided as to the identity of the third-party administrator or the nature of the possible compromise. At this time, then, it is a “might have been” situation as opposed to being notice of a confirmed incident. The county says they should know more within the next few days.
