NZ: Cyber attack hits medical centres

Posted on August 17, 2019 by Dissent

Eli Hill reports:

A global cyber security attack has forced the websites of four Wairarapa medical practices to be taken down after a Tu Ora Compass Health server fell victim to a hacker.

Tu Ora Compass Health’s website and the websites of Kuripuni, Greytown, Featherston, and Carterton medical centres cannot be accessed.

So. Was this “VandaTheGod’s” idea of how to promote some “revolution?” DataBreaches.net contacted VandaTheGod about the attacks via Twitter, asking them in DM how they could justify attacking medical centers that care for people. Their initial reply was to say “Protest, my brother. Its spam my mensage” (all spelling and typos in the original).

But then VandaTheGod asked me for the news link, and after looking at it, wrote:

Hm
Im no remember hack site medical
My atack gov edu
Lol

I replied that hospitals and medical centers are often linked to universities and might have an .edu extension. That elicited a “Hm” but nothing further.

DataBreaches.net knows that their are blackhat criminals who are not above attacking medical entities or charities. But someone claiming to be a hacktivist and for the people… well, if you are, please don’t put people at greater risk by attacking medical facilities. Please.
