MA: Pediatric Physicians’ Organization at Children’s hit by ransomware attack

Posted on February 12, 2020 by Dissent

Boston25 News reports:

A malware attack has disabled a computer system with Children’s Hospital affiliates, according to a spokesperson.

The Pediatric Physicians’ Organization at Children’s (PPOC) reported a large outage affecting more than 500 primary care doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants across the state.

The outage is only affecting offices that are affiliated with Boston Children’s Hospital.

None of the coverage I’ve seen so far indicates what kind of malware was involved or whether there was any ransom demand. PPOC was clear to note that the main hospital system was not impacted by the attack — only the affiliates, and even with them, it is not yet clear whether any protected health information was accessed or copied.
