Last month we started seeing reports of data leaks or breaches involving state unemployment benefits application portals.
We also started seeing reports of lawsuits filed as a result.
Ben Szalinski reports that in Illinois, one of the nearly 32,500 applicants who had private information exposed said it was used to access her bank account. Briana Julius is suing Deloitte Consulting, alleging the contractor failed to secure personally identifying information which led to fraudulent charges on her bank account and her debit card being shut off.
Deloitte is also being sued by some Ohio residents in other litigation that also alleges that the contractor failed to properly secure data.
Will we also see suits stemming from data security issues reported in Colorado, Kentucky, Florida, and Arkansas? Maybe…. Stay tuned.
