SC: Pickens County School District internet outage caused by cyberattack, district says

An Upstate school district dealt with an internet outage Tuesday morning.

The Pickens County School District said the outages on school and student devices were caused by a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDOS) attack on servers tasked with running Pickens County School District Online Services.

“I want to be clear it wasn’t a DDOS attack on our school district,” said John Eby with Pickens County School District Communications. “We’re not even sure if there was a DDOS attack on schools in general, but somewhere down the line there was a DDOS attack that affected our web filtering software company which affected all of our devices as well.
