Premier Kids Care, Inc. (PKC) of Georgia provides specialized pharmacy and home clinical services for children with diabetes, endocrinological, and perinatal needs.
On April 6, 2020, PKC discovered it had been targeted by a cyberattack and that an unauthorized actor had gained access to PKC systems.
An investigation into the incident revealed that the unauthorized actor did obtain some personal information stored on a company computer, although the information did not include any Social Security numbers or financial information. The personal information that may have been obtained included names of PKC’s patients, their status as a patient of PKC, dates of birth, addresses, telephone numbers, certain limited treatment information, and health insurance information.
PKC has notified affected individuals for whom it had current contact information and offered them identity protection services including credit monitoring for 12 months. There is no explanation as to why it took approximately eight months to investigate the incident and respond to it with notifications. Individuals who did not receive notification but believe their information may have been affected can call 1-833-431-1275 toll-free for additional information, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).
An inquiry sent to PKC as to whether this was a ransomware incident and seeking other details received no reply by the time of this publication. This post will be updated if a response is received. Although PKC published notice of the breach on December 5, there is as yet no listing on HHS of this incident, so we do not know how many patients were impacted.
