Fr: The city of Chalon-sur-Saône victim of a cyberattack

Posted on February 22, 2021 by Dissent

Le Dauphine reports (translation):

After the Villefranche-sur-Saône hospital  or even the Dax hospital , it is the turn of the city and the agglomeration of Chalon-sur-Saône to be victims of a cyberattack. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the computer systems were affected by “a crypto-virus”, told Frédéric Iacovella, director general of the services of the City and Grand Chalon, to our colleagues from the Journal de Saône et Loire.

Read more on Le Dauphine.  It appears that they had/have not received any ransom demand, but as we are learning with the attack on Accellion, some threat actors are not sending ransom notes immediately. Could that be why the city has not seen one?

Nor are we told what kind of ransomware this is — only that some files were encrypted and the IT people are as yet unsure whether any data has been exfiltrated.
