NY: Guilderland Central Schools Hit with Malware Attack

Posted on April 26, 2021 by Dissent

Mike Goodwin reports:

The Guilderland Central School District is the latest local organization victimized by a malware attack.

District officials said the attack was discovered after technical interruptions occurred on Thursday, calling the incident a “cyber attack by a threat actor group which used malware to encrypt certain systems throughout the district.”

The district published its first notice about the incident on April 23, the day after it began experiencing “technical difficulties.”  On April 25, they provided an update that confirmed it was a malware attack, but that it was not yet clear whether any sensitive data was compromised.

Update: On August 31, the district notified the Maine Attorney General’s Office that 367 people were impacted by the breach (total).
