Fox News reports on a somewhat wild case. A man who had access to Polk State College through his work as a clinical coordinator for PSC for Lakeland Regional Health allegedly hacked PSC in revenge after he was fired from Lakeland after a positive drug test.
The folks at PSC reportedly had nothing to do with him failing his drug test for Lakeland, but 38-year-old Brandon James Diaz apparently thought two employees of PSC were responsible, so he hacked them.
As detectives were investigating the hack, their investigation led back to him, and a search of his devices revealed child pornography on them. A second warrant enabled them to find even more pornography and he now faces both hacking charges and 75 counts of pornography.
It is not clear from the reporting whether any of the images or files found on Diaz’s computer include any protected health information from his work in the healthcare sector, but the sheriff said no student or college-related information was stolen in the hacking incident.
