Two Texas school districts report breaches, but what happened?

Posted on April 7, 2022 by Dissent

Two Texas school districts —  Weatherford Independent School District and Tuloso Midway ISD — reported breaches to the Texas Attorney General’s Office last month,  but to cut to the chase, DataBreaches.net has no idea what happened in each case.

The Weatherford ISD incident reportedly affected 1,254 Texans. The breach was reported to the state on March 31, but the district indicated that the breach, which involved addresses and Social Security numbers, did not result in any notification to consumers. There is no indication whether the individuals were employees or students, or both, or why the district decided notification was not required.  The District has not responded to a contact form inquiry sent to it this morning. [UPDATE of April 8: Weatherford has provided DataBreaches with a statement that can be found here.]

The Tuloso Midway ISD incident was reported to the state on March 3 as impacting 637 people. The types of information reportedly involved include name, Social Security Number, and financial information. DataBreaches.net did not receive an immediate reply to an emailed inquiry asking the district to provide a copy of any notification or statement that would explain this incident.  According to the AG’s site, the district did provide written notification to consumers about this incident.

This post will be updated when more information is available.
