Posted on August 23, 2022 by Dissent

Laura Watson reports:

A Stoke-on-Trent car dealership which boasts more than 10,000 ‘satisfied customers’ has been hit by a major cyber attack. Holdcroft Motor Group, in Leek Road, Hanley, was targeted by hackers who are believed to have stolen years’ worth of data.

StokeonTrentLive understands that the firm was hit with a demand for substantial payment after the attack.

An update to the report by TechMonitor suggests how serious the breach has been. An internal communication included:

“We have now managed to resolve the majority of the access issues that employees have been experiencing, although some of our core systems have been damaged beyond repair or have been permanently deleted.”

This incident does not appear on any dark web leak site at publication time, but DataBreaches will continue to monitor for its appearance.
