The Federal Government has announced a new task force to combat cyber criminals after the attacks on Optus and Medibank.
“The smartest and toughest people in our country are going to hack the hackers,” Cyber Security Minister Clare O’Neil said.

[Sarcasm alert] I’m sure hackers never thought about being pursued or attempts to hack-back before and that they are suddenly going to worry after this announcement.
Maybe this will provide some comfort to Australians feeling battered and angry after some huge breaches affecting them, but perhaps the government is simply deflecting attention from any claim that the country never enacted strong data protection laws that might have prevented some breaches.
