NV: Personal information accessed in Clark County School District cybersecurity incident (1)

The Clark County School District announced that a recent cybersecurity incident allowed an “unauthorized party” to access personal information of some students, parents and employees.

The district said it became aware of the hack on Oct. 5, adding that it involved the email environment.

“Upon discovering the incident, CCSD immediately engaged a team of forensic experts to investigate the incident and ensure that CCSD operates within a safe and remediated email environment,” a district spokesperson wrote. “CCSD is also cooperating with law enforcement’s investigation.”

A post on Reddit cited an email allegedly sent to parents about the breach. (h/t, Doug Levin).

Update of October 19:  Fox5 has an update on the situation. That news story includes a statement:

Several parents tell FOX5 their kids received a demand letter, which said private information would be released to the public if payment wasn’t received from the district by 5 p.m. on Thursday. The district has not commented on the validity of the email.

    1. Hopefully you don’t use that password for any of your other accounts at school or your personal accounts. If you do, change the other accounts’ passwords.

  2. Everyone and I mean everyone was scared it happend at our school to, we couldn’t use Google docs, Google slideshows and more. Remember, never do this, you will go to jail
