Caitlyn Freeman reports:
Personal information including Social Security numbers was compromised during the ransomware attack that hit Highline Public Schools in September, officials announced Wednesday.
School officials noticed malicious activity on its servers Sept. 7. The district closed schools for two days after the attack, which was later labeled a ransomware attack. After a nearly five-month investigation, officials determined sensitive information was compromised, according to a news release.
Read more at The Seattle Times for more information or see the district’s updated notification page.
The incident does not appear on any ransomware group leak sites and it is not clear whether any group ever publicly claimed responsibility for the attack. DataBreaches will update this post if more information on that aspect.
