Star Health hacker claims sending bullets, threats to top executives: Reports

Posted on May 9, 2025 by Dissent

Sheersh Kapoor reports:

The hacker responsible for a major data breach at Star Health and Allied Insurance last year has reportedly claimed responsibility for sending death threats and bullet cartridges to the insurer’s top executives.

According to Reuters, a person using the alias ‘xenZen’ said in a March 13 email that they mailed two packages containing bullet cartridges to Star Health’s Chennai headquarters. The parcels were addressed to Chief Executive Officer Anand Roy and Chief Financial Officer Nilesh Kambli, and included a note that read: “Next one will go in ur and ur peoples (sic) head. tik tik tik.”

The same hacker had earlier claimed responsibility for leaking 7.24 terabytes of customer data in 2024, which affected over 31 million people and included sensitive medical records. In an email to Reuters, xenZen said they were seeking buyers for the stolen data.
