Marquette County Medical Care Facility discloses data breach

Posted on June 24, 2025June 24, 2025 by Dissent

Marquette County Medical Care Facility (MCMCF) has issued a statement about a breach they discovered in March 2025.

On March 3, 2025, MCMCF became aware of the business email compromise incident when contacts of MCMCF’s Human Resources director began receiving phishing emails from her Microsoft Office 365 (O365) account.

The types of information involved included some combination of an individual’s name, social security number, date of birth, protected health information, and bank details. The disclosure does not indicate whether the incident affected only employee data or if it also involved any patient data.

MCMCF is a 140-bed facility consisting of semi-private and private rooms. They are equipped to handle a wide range of medical needs and can provide care to individuals who need long-term medical attention or short-term rehabilitation. They also have a “special needs unit” for individuals with dementia.

The full press release makes no mention of any free mitigation services being offered to those affected, but they do provide a dedicated toll-free helpline to call at 1-833-998-7185, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (EST).
