Today’s reminder of the insider threat comes to us from Battlefords Union Hospitals in Canada.
Battlefords Now reports that between October 1, 2024 and April 4, 2025, an operating room scheduler accessed the MedAccess EHR system to look at personal and primary care medical information for hundreds of patients without a legitimate purpose. That same Saskatchewan Health Authority employee allegedly also accessed the OR Manager (operating room management system) between January 6, 2025 to April 17, 2025, viewing patients’ personal information and surgical booking details — again, without any legitimate purpose.
“In the specific incident regarding patients at Battlefords Union Hospital, all affected patients have been notified, and the employee is no longer with the SHA,” Battlefords Now reports.
