Several days ago, we noted a report on GBHackers that described what they characterized as a significant security breach within the Qilin ransomware operation.
Over on SuspectFile, Marco A. De Felice was able to get a statement from Qilin in response to the claims. Actually, he got three statements. The first two were specific to previous reporting on the situation. The third was a response to Marco’s conclusions about the incident, which they took exception to.
You can read their responses on SuspectFile.
It is interesting to me that they care enough about their reputation that even media coverage in a blog is worthy of their attention and response. I am just surprised they didn’t challenge him about his statement in the introductory section of his post: “Among its most recent innovations is a feature called “Call Lawyer,” designed to increase psychological pressure on victims by simulating legal support during ransom negotiations.” Qilin did not seem to deny his description that they are (just) simulating having lawyers. I would have expected them to maintain that they have real lawyers.
