KT Chief to Resign After Cybersecurity Breach Resolution

Posted on October 21, 2025 by Dissent

Choi A-ri reports:

Kim Young-shub, KT’s representative, stated regarding the unauthorized micro-payment incident, “I will take responsibility once the situation is resolved,” effectively expressing his intention to step down from his position.

During a National Assembly Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee audit held on the 21st, Kim bowed his head in response to a question about whether he would take responsibility for cybersecurity breaches, saying, “The top executive bears overall responsibility.” He added, “Once the situation is appropriately resolved, I will take due responsibility.” When asked if his remarks about responsibility implied resignation, he replied, “I can confirm that this responsibility includes stepping down,” thereby clarifying his intention to resign. This came as demands for his resignation intensified amid growing damage from the KT unauthorized micro-payment incident. This marked the first time Kim publicly addressed his resignation.
