This seems to be a “first” for the area:
Police have arrested a man for breaking into the home of another man and installing a virus on his computer, which he later used to obtain his online banking details and steal 9 million yen from his account.
Takamasa Kondo, 37, of no fixed address, was arrested under the Unauthorized Computer Access Law.
Police say Kondo took a key to the victim’s apartment that was hidden in his mailbox and used it to break into his home in Tokyo’s Chuo-ku, where he installed a virus called Bugbear onto his computer — the first case of a hacker directly installing a virus onto a victim’s PC, say police.
