If we want to improve data protection and security, maybe instead of requiring encryption, we should just outlaw cars?
A portable storage device stolen from the vehicle of an employee of the Tatum division of SFN Professional Services (Strategic Workforce Solutions) has resulted in the firm notifying its employees that their names, addresses, and Social Security numbers were on the unencrypted device.
In its notification to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, SFN’s Senior Counsel Joy Barbour states that the company became aware of the possible compromise on March 24, but the letter does not actually state when the theft occurred nor how many employees had data on the device.
Smash and grab. Can we outlaw stupidity? No- how about: All portable devices will have GPS monitors or will be chained to desks.
