The New Mexico Human Services Department said Tuesday that about 9,600 members of its Salud! Medicaid plan and fee for service members might have had their personal information, including Social Security numbers, compromised.
[…]
The potential compromise occurred on March 20 in Chicago when an unencrypted laptop computer was stolen from an employee of a subcontractor of a company that processes claims and provides dental benefits for the state’s Medicaid program.
The laptop contained patient information that included individual names and health plan identification numbers (which, in some cases, is a Social Security number), the department said in a news release.
The company that does the billing for Medicaid is DentaQuest. The subcontractor is West Monroe Partners.
The computer was in the trunk of the employee’s car, which was stolen, the release said. As of Tuesday, neither the car nor the laptop had been recovered.
