Another payment processor reported a breach this week….
People who paid Cape Fear Community College with a credit or debit card might have had their card numbers exposed, said Camellia Rice, vice president of business services at CFCC.
The payment company which processes debit and credit card payments for CFCC announced Wednesday that its system was breached.
Rice said that only payments made in person using a card swipe machine were exposed.
Cardholder’s Social Security numbers, addresses, telephone numbers and personal identification numbers were kept safe, the payment company told Rice. But the data that was exposed can still be used to carry out unauthorized purchases.
Those who made payments to CFCC have been urged to monitor their monthly credit and debit card statements. If suspicious activity is detected, the cardholder should contact his or her bank immediately, Rice said.
