The ITRC provides free assistance for victims of identity theft, fraud or scams

Oct. 1, 2025 — The Identity Theft Resource Center® (ITRC), a nationally recognized nonprofit organization established to support victims of identity crime, is available to assist victims during the Federal Government shutdown. The ITRC, a trusted nonprofit partner of the Federal Trade Commission and the Internal Revenue Service, can provide immediate, free assistance to those who believe they are victims of identity theft, fraud or a scam.

Through the ITRC’s no-cost contact center, the award-winning nonprofit provides resolution plans for victims to help them restore and protect their identity after a criminal has misused personal information. The ITRC also provides free prevention information to help people protect their identities.

Victims and consumers can speak with an expert advisor toll-free by text or phone (888.400.5530) or by using the live chat function on our company website, idtheftcenter.org. The ITRC also operates FrozenPii.com, a website that focuses on how to freeze your credit and other data sources to help prevent identity theft, fraud and scams.
