Troy D. Fears, who was formerly incarcerated at the Maine State Prison in Warren, was sentenced to 57 months in prison to be followed by 3 years of supervised release for filing false tax returns and misusing social security numbers.
On February 4, 2011, Fears plead guilty to the charges. According to court records, between 2005 and December 2009, Fears, while incarcerated in Arizona and Maine, submitted 117 false individual income tax returns seeking refunds of more than $515,000 using the social security numbers of other prisoners without their
permission.
