The investigation continues into how and where a USB key, containing personal health information of thousands of people who had a flu shot in Durham Region, was lost.
In the meantime, letters have been sent to every one of the 83,524 people who attended any health department flu vaccination clinics from Oct. 23 to Dec. 15, 2009.

The information on the key includes the person’s name, address, phone number, date of birth, health card number, name of their primary physician and personal health information provided when they got the vaccination.

The cost to mail out letters to each person was $44,808.62 and the money is coming out of the health department budget, department spokeswoman Glendene Collins said.
