KRGV reports that patient and employee records from Xtra Mile Ambulance Service Company were found in a dumpster at a storage facility. The ambulance company is no longer in business.
The medical files contain personal information including Social Security numbers, addresses and bank account numbers.
So if the files were stored, their only exposure occurred when the storage facility went to clean out the storage unit. The ambulance company, even if defunct, still had an obligation to protect those records, and Texas has gone after other entities in the past for improper disposal of records. In this case, there may be a parent corporation to pursue as a Google search reveals that there are Xtra Mile Ambulance Service companies in other parts of Texas.
