Fran Foo reports:
A technical glitch at Westpac’s Bank of Melbourne has inadvertently exposed sensitive customer information to other clients.
The problem has resulted in some people requesting new credit cards.
Although it apologised for the mistake, one Bank of Melbourne business customer, who received a vague letter of explanation from the bank, expressed shock and confusion at the whole episode.
When the bank dispatched collection letters to personal and business banking customers in early November, it inadvertently inserted in some envelopes collection letters meant for other customers.
Such letters may contain someone’s name, address, account number and the amount owing, as customers would be in arrears on home loans, credit card and/or other facilities.
